Walking tour

At a length of over 160 kilometres and a width of up to 60 kilometres, the black forest offers you a unique view to the Alps in the south and forests as far as the eye can reach in the north. Wild landscapes, deep valleys, sunny summits – you can experience all this during your stay with us.

Surrounded by several mountains and valleys, Bad Herrenalb is an ideal starting point for a walking-tour. From here you can explore the unique landscape of the Black Forest Nature Park / North Nature Park. The meagre but unique flora and fauna of this oldest nature reserve of Baden-Wuerttemberg is a popular destination with it’s well-developed hiking trail network and the timber plank ways through the moor. Rarely become animals such as capercaillie found their home here.
You reach the Hochmoor either from Kaltenbronn or Bad Wildbad.

How to get there: Follow the signs „Sommerberg“. Either you park directly at the entrance to the treetop trail or let the cable car take you from the mountain railway station to the upper top.

Monastery Frauenalb

Founded 1180 as monastery for the female members of the family by Count Eberhard III. of Eberstein -in 1803 the Benedictine convent abandoned the monastery and the imposing monastic complex falls into ruins. Today the old abbey, the monastery economy, the picturesque garden house and parts of the management house are used.

Classical music at the monastery

In summer and in Advent, special charity concerts take place in the unique atmosphere of the monastery church of Bad Herrenalb. Classical music at the monastery brings artists from all over the world to Bad Herrenalb.

Annual railway festival Bad Herrenalb

The annual railway station festival in July is celebrating the railway connection established in 1898 through the Albtal from Ettlingen to Bad Herrenalb. Here you can get an insight into the historical railway operation of the 19th century during one of the steam train rides on a diesel locomotive from Marxzell to Bad Herrenalb and back. Be part and enjoy your trip to the past.

On the first weekend of August, the traditional monastery festival takes place in the historical city center and offers a wide range of acttractions for its visitors.
